Koninklijk Eise Eisinga Planetarium

This year, the Royal Eise Eisinga Planetarium in Franeker, Friesland, was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is the Netherlands’ 13th world heritage site on this list. Built in the 18th century by Frisian wool manufacturer and amateur astronomer Eise Eisinga, this Planetarium is the oldest working planetarium in the world.

In close cooperation with the exhibition designer, Lichtpunt was commissioned to create a new lighting plan for various rooms and showcases, replacing the old lighting. The occasion was the redesign of some of the Planetarium’s visitor rooms. In this project, they chose the CLS Focus Micro, FocusGIII, and Jade Zoom, complementing the Focus fixtures the museum already used in its exhibitions. With these fixtures, the various elements were perfectly lit.

“The Eise Eisinga Planetarium is a museum in the ‘small but fine’ category, with many enthusiastic and committed (largely volunteer) staff. That always results in a more beautiful end result, with great satisfaction for all involved.” Thus, Leon van Warmerdam, Lichtpunt.
