Scheepvaart Museum

The collection of Scheepvaart Museum Amsterdam the is one of the largest and most important maritime collections in the world with around 400,000 objects, including paintings, ship models, navigation instruments and world maps. The museum wanted to renew its lighting in certain areas to be ready for the future. To ensure that the decision for the future was the right one, an extensive decision-making process was set in motion, with no fewer than seven manufacturers competing for the prestigious contract to supply over 1,000 zoom fixtures.

The requirements for the fixtures to be supplied, warranty conditions and additional services from the manufacturer and supplier were laid down in a thorough schedule of requirements.
CLS decided to take part in the process via their partner Lichtpunt, which specializes in providing lighting technology in museum environments. After going through the procedure in no fewer than three stages, the CLS Jade Zoom proved to be the ultimate choice. In addition, the combination of CLS/Lichtpunt best met the requirements set for the supplier.

In addition to a zoom fixture, a solution was also requested for the work lighting, which had to be dimmable, installed using track mounting and, in terms of aesthetics, had to meet the requirements of the museum and its advisors. CLS decided to design a new variant of the Lina Track Diffused for this purpose. This extremely slim, rotatable and tiltable fixture is equipped with a Casambi Bluetooth track adapter. The extensive Casambi software enables many different settings to be made in a simple manner.

The new lighting was used for the new “Amsterdam Port City” exhibition.
